KHSOGA Summer Outing 29TH May 2014

17 old girls and 7 family members of our Old Girls' Association enjoyed a very informative Summer outing exploring the grounds of Titchmarsh House. Our hosts were Sir Ewen and Lady Harper, who met us at 2pm just outside their delightful home, in the centre of the village of Titchmarsh.

Two groups, under the watchful eyes of Sir Ewen and his Head Gardener set off for a very interesting tour of the extensive and well stocked gardens. There were hosts of beautiful flowers, bushes, shrubs and trees which had been carefully chosen for their intended growing areas. The large gardens had been extended by Sir Ewen and Lady Harper over the years, but rather than being well manicured had been left for a more natural feel, which made a very interesting walk. We discovered unusual plants as well as more well-known ones, all lovingly tended and well maintained by the owners and their gardeners. Indeed, Sir Ewen told us that both he and his wife spend a considerable amount of time each day working in their gardens.

After the most interesting walk, we all met at Titchmarsh House where afternoon tea was provided for us. The weather was very kind and a lot of us sat outside to enjoy the sun whilst we ate our scones and drank tea!

We all thoroughly enjoyed this pleasant afternoon, having learned about many varieties of plants and trees as well as enjoying a delicious cream tea. We all look forward to our next Summer outing in 2025, wherever it will take us.
